If you follow my adventures on Instagram then you know Athleta is one of my go-to’s for activewear, travel outfits and outdoor styles. I love that so many of their pieces can easily be taken from the trail into everyday life, all whilst being comfy and practical. My favorite part of all is Athleta’s mission for sustainability and how they encourage women to get out there and reach their limitless potential! In this blog post I’m sharing some of my favorite summer activewear and hiking styles from Athleta.
Summer Activewear and Hiking Styles from Athleta
I recently had the chance to try out some of Athleta’s new styles during a trip to French Polynesia. I knew that the trip would involve a lot of long travel days, hiking, swimming, and also some time for daily workouts. So I ended up wearing each piece numerous times and overall was super impressed with how functional and multi-purpose everything was.
Below I’ve featured some of my favorite styles, including links in case you wanted to check them out!
Multi-purpose Leggings
The Excursion Tights are my absolute favorite thing from Athleta! They are made from a stretchy rib-knit material that feels super soft on the skin and has just the right amount of firmness. The best part? They have side pockets! I am a BIG fan of side pockets for storing my phone and other small items when hiking and working out. I wore these tights during both long-haul flying days, during a couple of hikes, and for daily workouts.
Workout Tops + Sports Bras
It was definitely hot and humid in French Polynesia, which meant I was reaching for lightweight and breezy workout styles. I was also spending a lot of time in the water, so anything that could double as a swimsuit was very handy! My go-to sports bra for the trip was the Contender Bra in white. I found it paired well with my other workout pieces and was comfortable enough to wear for long periods at a time.
I also really enjoyed wearing the Colorblock Zip Front Bikini Top as it provided medium coverage and meant I could immediately jump in the water after working out! Plus, the zip front makes it that little bit easier to take off (all my ladies out there will know that struggle with workout tops!)
My go-to tops for the trip were the Vapor Tank in white and black. They were so lightweight, breathable, and easy to pair with anything.

Lightweight Jacket
I own a lot of heavier jackets that are great in colder weather, but I knew these wouldn’t be suitable for French Polynesia. Instead I opted to take along the Athleta Ascender Jacket and found myself reaching for it on numerous occasions, including during my travel days and when working out. I love how easily it packs down and that each pocket has zips so my valuables weren’t at risk of falling out.
Active Skort Dress
I had never owned an “outdoor” dress prior to getting my hands on the Expedition Skort Dress. I always presumed that working out or hiking in a dress was too impractical and potentially too revealing. The Expedition Skort Dress is exactly how it sounds, a stretchy dress suited for adventures with built in shorts for extra coverage.

Activewear Shorts
Athleta has a great range of shorts suited for hiking, working out, and running. I enjoyed wearing the Excursion Hybrid 9″ Short during my trip to French Polynesia, with my favorite part being the fitted high waist that holds you in. They also make an 11″ version for taller ladies and a more running friendly style in the Ascender Short.

I looove Athleta, so I love seeing what you picked out and how you styled them. I’m going to have to check out the excursion tights. 🙂
These outfits look so comfortable and stylish at the same time. This is definitely something you need for places like this.
